CITEA WARNING: AI AND GEOPOLITICAL DEVELOPMENTS ARE DRIVING RAM PRICES UP – IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION AND PROPOSALS SUBMITTED TO THE GOVERNMENT

The Cyprus Information Technology Enterprises Association (CITEA) is sending a clear message to both the State and the market following a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy regarding the serious issue caused by the sharp increase in memory (RAM) prices and other critical technology components.

The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI), combined with geopolitical developments and pressure on the supply chain, has created an environment of intense instability and unpredictable price increases in key technology components.

The market has now reached a critical point, with companies being required to implement projects in an environment of extreme uncertainty, continuous price increases, and reduced predictability.

CITEA did not limit itself to identifying the problem.

It proceeded with immediate intervention, presenting not only the issue but also specific proposals for immediate action, with the aim of avoiding project delays and protecting the sustainability of the sector.

As emphasized during the meeting, without immediate adjustment of the framework:

  • · projects are at risk of delays or cancellations
  • · companies are avoiding participation in tenders
  • · financial risk in the sector is increasing significantly

At the same time, CITEA went one step further by submitting a proposal for the creation of a European IT Hardware Price Index, in order to ensure transparency, predictability, and fair risk distribution across Europe.

This proposal will also be sent to Digital Europe, with the aim of immediately opening discussion at the European level and examining its institutional adoption.

CITEA will continue to intervene dynamically, both at the national and European levels, with the goal of protecting the market, ensuring the smooth implementation of projects, and safeguarding the country’s digital progress.
