CYPRUS SHAPES ITS DIGITAL FUTURE: CLOUD, TALENT AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN THE SPOTLIGHT

CITEA successfully hosted an event bringing together its members and representatives of Cyprus’ technology ecosystem to discuss digital transformation, the attraction of highly skilled talent, and the development of Cyprus’ National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

The event was opened by CITEA President, Mr. George Malekkos, who highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration between the public and private sectors to strengthen the competitiveness of the Cypriot economy and maximize the opportunities created by technology.

During the event, Ms. Kyriaki Pantziarou presented the Government’s “Cloud First” policy and the initiatives being implemented to accelerate the digital transformation of the public sector. Mr. Alexandros Alexandrou outlined opportunities for attracting highly skilled professionals from Egypt to address workforce needs in the ICT sector, while Mr. Theodoros Loukaidis, Director General of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), shared information on available funding schemes and opportunities for businesses and organizations investing in research, innovation, and technological development.

Particular interest was generated by the presentation of Mr. Dimitris Skourides, Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, who outlined the framework of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy currently under development. His presentation highlighted the vision, priorities, and opportunities for leveraging AI to support Cyprus’ economic growth and competitiveness, while also fostering a constructive discussion on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

CITEA believes that the adoption of Artificial Intelligence is a strategic priority for Cyprus and a key driver of competitiveness, innovation, and investment attraction. The Association emphasizes that the successful implementation of the National AI Strategy should be supported by adequate resources, modern infrastructure, clear objectives, implementation timelines, and measurable performance indicators to ensure tangible outcomes.

The event concluded with an engaging discussion among participants, who exchanged views on the opportunities and challenges associated with digital transformation, innovation, and Artificial Intelligence in Cyprus.
